Goa’s up and coming shuttler Tanisha Crasto has achieved the “unique and historic” feat of winning twin gold at the All India Badminton Ranking Championships at Nagpur Maharashtra, being only the first Goan to achieve such a feat in a single event.
Tanisha achieved the unique distinction in Under 17 Girls doubles and Under 17 Mixed Doubles, with Aditi Bhatt (Uttarakhand) as her partner in Girls doubles and Ishan Bhatnagar (Chhatisgarh) as her partner in Mixed doubles. In U17 Girls Doubles finals, Tanisha / Aditi Bhatt defeated Kerala’s pair of Treesa Jolly and Mehreen Riza 21-9, 21-13. In Under 17 Mixed doubles, Tanisha / Ishan defeated Haryana’s pair of Ravi/ Sakshi Gahlawat 21-15, 21-18.
Tanisha will next head to Hyderabad to participate in the upcoming Sub Junior All India Ranking which will be held from July 31 to August 6. The double leg Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournaments (u-15 and u-17) in Nagpur and Hyderabad form the basis for selection of Indian squads for the Asian Junior Championship (U-15 and U-17) to be held in Myanmar in October. Another good performance by Tanisha will ensure her selection in the prestigious Asian Junior Championships.
In a congratulatory message, Goa Badminton Association lauded the “amazing and historic” feat of the young Goan shuttler. “This is an amazing and historic feat by Tanisha. The win is a result of a combination of immense hard work, talent and support from her parents. Tanisha is a quiet, focussed and dedicated girl who will greet you with a smile and a namaste. She is Goa’s rising talent who has won 4 medals at All India Ranking circuit within the last 8 to 9 months. Her career is on an upwards graph and we will keep hearing lots from her in the days to come. Goa Badminton Association wishes Tanisha all the best in all her future endeavours,” GBA’s Sandeep Heble said
in a press statement.
