49 cyclists complete 200km BRM ride
PANAJI: Forty-nine cyclists mainly from Goa and a few others from Chennai, Belgavi and Pune successfully completed the 200 kms Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux (BRM) endurance cycle ride organised by the Tri Goa Foundation on Sunday, March 12. The cyclists rode the Panaji-Pernem-Borim-Margao-Quepem-Bali-Betul-Cavellosim-Dabolim-Cortalim-Panaji, 200 km route and completed their ride within the stipulated 13.5 hours. Randonneuring is a long-distance cycling sport with its origins in audax cycling. In randonneuring, riders ride for 200 kms or more, passing through predetermined checkpoints. Riders aim to complete the course within specified time limits and receive equal recognition regardless of their finishing order. The international governing body for randonneuring is Audax Club Parisien (ACP), which works with other randonneuring organisations worldwide. Tri Goa Foundation organises BRMs in Goa on behalf of Audax India.
A Div cricket: Iqbal XI South Zone champs
MARGAO: Iqbal XI of Margao defeated Lapaz Gardens Cricket Club of Vasco by 62 runs to emerge South Zone A Division cricket champs at Sanguem Cricket Academy grounds. Batting first, Iqbal XI scored 173 in their allotted 35 overs and later dismissed Lapaz Gardens for 111. Scores in brief: Iqbal XI, 173 all out in 35 overs (Amey Dhamsekar 36, Santosh Upadhye & Vikas Desai 26 each. Amar Arkas 22, Harish Naik 20 runs. Sagar Muley 2-40, Salman Ahmed 2-18, Ajay Kewat 3-34, Hemant Shetgaonkar 2-24, Nilesh Naik 1-25) beat Lapaz Gardens CC, 111 all out in 31 overs (Hemant Shetgaonkar 31, Salman Ahmed & Shravan Hanchmal 19 runs each. Raghu Shourie 4-26, Santosh Upadhye 2-19, Sagar Gosavi, Harish Naik and Mayor Nadkarni 1 wkt each).
Cricket: OL of Grace eves North champs
MARGAO: OL of Grace High School of Bicholim defeated Progress High School of Sanquelim by 45 runs to emerge champs in the U-16 North Goa girls Dilip Sardesai inter-school cricket tournament organized by Goa Cricket Association. In the finals played at Colvale grounds, OL of Grace HS scored 144 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Progress HS struggled and managed toscore 99 for 8 in 20 overs.
B Division cricket: Arlem,Yuwak Sangh cruise to facile wins
MARGAO: Vishal Gite scored 70 off 39 balls (6x4 & 4x6) to help Arlem Cricket Club beat Maruti CC by 51 runs in the ‘B’ Division cricket tournament organized by Goa Cricket Association at Sanguem Cricket Academy grounds. Batting first, Arlem CC scored 198 in 33.1 overs. In reply, Maruti CC scored 151 runs. At SAG grounds, Campal,Rudreshwar Yuwak Sangh defeated Shuttlers CC by 7 runs in the Tiswadi zone B division cricket match. Batting first, Rudreshwar YS scored 156 runs in 38 overs with Ajay Paswan top-scoring with 40 runs. For Shuttlers, Amit Kamat took 5 for 32. In reply,Shutters CC were all out for 149.
Veterans soccer at Sao Jose de Areal
MARGAO: Assolda Vetarans will organise an all Goa Veterans football tournament at Sao Jose de Areal grounds from March 18. Winners and runners-up will take home a cash purse of Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Goa Swimathon 2017
Panaji: The 7th Goa Swimathon organized by Enduro Sports Goa will be held on April 8 and 9, 2017 at Bambolim beach.
