While the navy divers pulled out the body of one onlooker, Ajit Prakash Ekka (28) a native of Jharkand but residing at Sanvordem in the wee hours of Friday, the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) from Pune retrieved the body of Basaaya alias Santosh Wandal (26) of Cacora, who is believed to have committed suicide by jumping off the bridge on Thursday evening. The body of Basavaraj Malanavar (30) a truck driver from Bazar wada, Sanguem, was pulled out late Thursday evening.
While the search operations on Thursday night were restricted to the area around the collapsed footbridge, the operations were expanded on Friday as the search and recovery agencies suspected that any missing bodies could have floated away with the tide.
With no person being reported missing in police stations around the accident site, authorities are unlikely to continue with the search operations, but NDRF team has been requested to remain on standby till Saturday.
