Verna Veterans edged past Salcete Veterans 3-2 via tiebreaker to clinch the exhibition soccer match organised by United Club of Verna played at Verna Church ground on Sunday. The match was closely contested, with Verna Veterans taking an early lead in the 8th minute through a well-executed goal by Remy. However, Salcete Veterans quickly responded, with Melwin finding the back of the net to equalise. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leading to an intense tiebreaker that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Verna Veterans emerged victorious in the shootout, winning 3-2. Manuel, Benny, and Sandeep successfully converted their penalties for Verna, while Dominic and Vitorin scored for Salcete.
Povação win inter-ward tourney
MARGAO: Povação/Dignem/Manzo secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Old Mardol in a dramatic tiebreaker to claim the championship title in the inaugural Inter-Ward 7-a-Side Football Tournament. The match took place at the Verna Church Ground and was organised by the United Club of Verna. The highly anticipated final showcased exceptional football talent from both sides, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd. The game lived up to its promise, with both teams exhibiting skill and determination throughout. Despite their best efforts, neither team could break the deadlock in regular play, necessitating a nerve-wracking tiebreaker to determine the winner. In the shootout, Povação/Dignem/Manzo edged out Old Mardol with a final score of 3-2. Tony Dcosta, the chief guest, presented the prizes to the winning team and the runners-up, with the PI of Verna, Melson Colaco, and other dignitaries and club officials in attendance.

PANAJI: Our Lady of the Rosary Higher Secondary School, Dona Paula won the Sepak Takraw U-19 Girls Inter-Higher Secondary Zonal Tournament 2024 organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs at Indoor Hall, Campal-Panaji. In the zonal finals, Our Lady of the Rosary Higher Secondary School, Dona Paula, defeated Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Pilar.
