Twin sisters Galya and Leoma Fernandes, Anushri Naik and Samaira Soares have moved into the finals of the Bambolim Beach Resort State TT championship, at Peddem.
In the Girls U15 semifinals, Galya snatched an exciting 3-1 (8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11) win over Ruchi Kirtani while Leoma produced a 3-0 (13-11, 11-5, 11-6) win over Riya Gopi in the other semis. In the Girls U19 section, the first semis was contested between the two sisters with Leoma winning 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10 against Galya. Anushri Naik cruised past Neeja Kamat, winning the other semis 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8).
Galya reversed the result in the Girls U17 category with an exciting 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9) win over Leoma. The other semis was an edge-of-the-seat thriller where Samaira Soares emerged victorious at the expense of Urvi Surlakar. Down by two sets, Samaira came back strongly to register a 3-2 (8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-3) win.
GFA Women's League to conclude on Dec 5
The final and prize distribution of the 6th GFA Vedanta Women’s League 2022-23 will be held on December 5 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa. The concluding match between Sinquerim Sports Club and Churchill Brothers Sports Club will kick off at 3.45 pm at the venue.
Meanwhile, the CAM Goa Professional League 2022-23 will commence on December 6. The inaugural ceremony of the league will be held on December 6 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa at 3.30 pm and the opening match between Velsao Sports & Cultural Club and Guardian Angel Sports Club will kick off at 3.45 pm.
Goa University hockey trials on Dec 7
PANAJI: Goa University will conduct selection trials in hockey (men and women) on December 7 at 9.30 am. Students interested in attending the trials may report at the SAG Sports Complex, Peddem, Mapusa along with their college identity card and a playing kit.
The West Zone Inter University Hockey Championship for Women is tentatively scheduled from December 20-24 at Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidhyapeeth (Deemed) University, Udaipur, Rajasthan. The West Zone Inter University Hockey Championship for Men is scheduled at ITM, Gwalior tentatively in the last week of December.
