MARGAO
Compassion FC hammered Churchill Brothers 7-0 in the last league match of the Khelo India Girls under-17 football tournament organised by the GFA, at Fr Agnel Ashram ground at Verna.
With the victory, Compassion had 6 wins and 2 draws to secure 20 points from their 8 matches of the double leg league. Churchill have two more games to be played.
The game started with Fatima Braganza scoring the first goal in the second minute of play due to a blunder in the collection by goalkeeper Sanchia. The goal came as a big surprise to the Churchill team as the two teams had played a three-each draw in their first-leg encounter. It was Sadana who scored two goals in the 32nd and 33rd minute.
At halftime, the 3-0 lead gave Compassion FC the freedom to take complete control of the game. But with some pep talk by the Churchill coach during the break it looked like they would give a difficult time for the team comprising mostly of underprivileged girls of Compassion FC.
However, in the 52nd minute, their main defender pulled up Fatima from scoring a certain goal and received a red card. The resultant kick was beautifully put into the net by skipper Riya Patre and then it was no looking back for the Compassion team. Later, three more goals from Fatima Braganza (63rd, 77th (penalty) and 90th minutes) completed the big win.
