The picturesque shores of Colva Beach served as the backdrop for a transformative beach volleyball camp organized by the Compassion Sports Academy in collaboration with Team Merge from the United States.
The camp, which spanned three days, saw the participation of Goan coaches and players from across South India, culminating in a blend of practical training sessions held in the mornings and evenings, complemented by classroom sessions conducted at a beach resort in Colva.
Amina Pereira, a participant from Goa and sibling to the renowned international beach volleyball player Aaron Pereira, described the holistic training approach as "profoundly meaningful", emphasizing its positive impact on both the game and the players' overall personality development. Accompanying Amina were veteran volleyball stalwarts Betty D’Silva and Milagrine Mascarenhas, each boasting over five decades of volleyball experience.
Joining them were players from South India, including Vijaylakshmi Kannan, Florence Nightingale, Karthika, Prema, Pavithra, and Priyadarshini, alongside coach Thomas from the Life Sports Academy. The camp comprised theoretical and practical sessions, with competitive matches featuring players from Team Merge enhancing the learning experience.
The Indian contingent acknowledged a disparity in skill levels compared to global standards, particularly after being introduced to fundamental concepts and techniques by American coach Trinity, whose visit to Goa during the seventh Challenge event on the 2023 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour catalysed the camp's inception.
Led by Chris, Team Merge, comprising US collegiate players Kelsi, Elly, and Ivy, left an indelible mark with their inspiring presence. The camp was further enriched by the contributions of Clint, Amy, Jenn, Sam, and physical trainer Emily.
