Cortalim Villagers Social Welfare SC prevailed over Dempo SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker to emerge champions in the 17th Police Cup final football tournament, at Duler Football ground, on Tuesday.
Dempo SC had an opportunity to take the lead in the 10th minute but Beckham Dias' long range shot missed the target by a whisker. Cortalim Villagers played an attacking game and their playmaker Prathamesh Gaonkar missed two goal-scoring opportunities. In the 12th minute, Prathmesh's power-packed shot was saved by Manas Dubey under Dempo’s bar. Asmon Viegas and missed a goal-scoring opportunity in the 24th minute while Fassen P K's header was brilliantly saved by Cortalim Villagers goalkeeper Francis Vincent.
Both the teams tied at goalless at the end of regulation time.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Vikram Venkatachalam, Clive Miranda, Bersal Viegas and K. Dhanusraj netted for Cortalim Villagers while Anish Gadar and Versly Paes were on target for Dempo SC.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Joshua D'Souza, Deputy Speaker, Dr Caetano Fernandes, GFA president and other dignitaries.
