Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda scrapped past a fighting Curtorim Gymkhana by a solitary first half goal to enter the semi-finals of the II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Tuesday.
Don Bosco Oratory used the speed of their wingers to trouble the steady defence of Curtorim marshalled by veteran Mario Mascarenhas and youngster Alilio Fernandes. Rishab Karapurkar and Hanslum Furtado had a good game and in a calculated move Rishabh floated a through ball to Mario Noronha who out ran past the defenders to slot the ball past the Curtorim keeper Johnson Bhogat to give his the lead in the first half.
Curtorim played their hearts out in the second half with total domination with Ryan and Valister Silveira dodging past the Oratory defenders but failed to tap the ball past DBO keeper Karol Soares under the bar.
Curtorim's Joston took a curling corner kick to unmarked Rhay Dias who headed the ball inches wide off the target to the dismay of their supporters. With Don Bosco going into the defensive mode, Curtorim players parked themselves into the Don Bosco half forcing five corners but a goal proved elusive to them allowing DBO to enter the semis where they will clash with Ambelim SC on November 23.
