Naro Hari Shrestha's impressive brace propelled Diamond Harbour FC Kolkata to a commanding 3-0 victory over Sesa Football Academy in the I-League 3 playoff at Naihati Stadium on Monday, effectively sidelining Sesa’s hopes for a top-two finish in Group A. This marked Sesa's second defeat of the season.
Shrestha opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on a floating cross from Justin Bobby with a powerful header that left goalkeeper Roanal Camilo Gaunkar helpless. He doubled the lead just before halftime in the 44th minute with a brilliant left-footed strike from a tight angle, again showcasing his skill as he maneuvered through Sesa's defense.
Diamond Harbour maintained relentless pressure throughout the match, outpacing their opponents and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite Sesa’s defense managing to stave off further goals, the Kolkata side continued to assert their dominance.
In the 77th minute, substitute Supriya Pandit added to the scoreline with a fierce right-footed shot from the right flank that found the back of the net, sealing the victory for Diamond Harbour.
While Sesa Football Academy had a few chances to score, their forwards struggled with execution, undermining their efforts to get back into the game. With this result, Sesa’s chances of progression now depend on securing positive results in their remaining matches.
Post-match, Diamond Harbour FC Secretary Bhattacharjee expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It is a fantastic result, and I’m very happy with the team’s performance. This victory is particularly special as we faced pressure from consecutive matches. Our defense held strong in the first half, which shifted the game in our favor.”
Diamond Harbour FC has now secured two consecutive wins, gathering a total of six points, while Sesa Football Academy remains with three points from three matches.
