Vasco SC eased past Panjim Footballers over a 2-0 win in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Monday. Vasco secured a commanding victory with goals from Koch and Horam in each half, as they bounced back in style against Panjim Footballers.
Both sides came into the contest looking to recover from previous losses. Panjim made three adjustments, bringing in Velon Rebello on the left, Ajay Raj on the right, and Prasil Kankonkar in defense. Vasco, eager to recover from their heavy defeat to Dempo, bolstered their backline with Mujafarhusain and Lengunhao Koch.
Under Coach Joao, Vasco displayed improved organization in midfield, while Panjim, still without a head coach, saw assistant coach Malcolm Gonsalves take charge. Despite some early pressure from Vasco, including a long-range shot from Manglienboi Neihsial that shook the crossbar, it was Koch who broke the deadlock at the 30-minute mark. After Benjamin Lupheng's header caused chaos in the box, Koch pounced, nodding the ball past the Panjim keeper to give Vasco the lead.
Panjim responded well, creating a near equalizer when Richie Vaz's effort forced a sharp save from Vasco's keeper. However, Vasco nearly doubled their advantage just before halftime, only for Horam to squander a one-on-one chance.
In the second half, Horam made amends, coolly slotting home after Lalnunsiama’s precise long ball put him through on goal. Despite Panjim’s best efforts to get back into the game, Vasco’s defense held firm, securing a vital three points.
