Dicarpale SC triumphed over Guardian Angel Sports Club Curchorem with a dramatic 5-4 victory in the tiebreaker to claim the 16th St Anthony's Festival Cup 2024. The match, held on Sunday at Moll Ground in Assolda and organised by St Anthony's Sports Club Assolda, was a thrilling display of attacking football.
Both teams exhibited a high level of skill and determination, but the first half ended without any goals. The second half saw increased urgency as Dicarpale SC's Ajay Raj broke the deadlock with a precise shot in the 45th minute. However, Guardian Angel quickly equalised when Jaison Dias scored fifteen minutes later.
The match proceeded to a tiebreaker, where Dicarpale's Sahil Mandar, William Niasso, Royson Colaco, and Ajay Raj each converted their penalties. Guardian Angel SC's Godwin D'Costa, Fedrick Fdes, and Rayan Menezes also scored, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
The chief guest for the event was Nilesh Cabral, MLA of Curchorem, while Fr Peter D'Souza, Parish Priest of Paroda Church, served as the special guest. The event also saw the presence of Siddharth Gauns Dessai, ZP; Dr Caitano Fernandes, GFA President; Anthony Pango, GFA Vice President; GFA Ex-Committee members Cosme Oliveira, Petwin Fizardo, Costa Paul Rodrigues, Andrew Ferrao, Royala Fernandes, and Tony Fernandes; Panch Member VP Assolda Manoj Naik; and Melvin DaCosta, Referee Commissioner. Sarpanch Custodio Fernandes welcomed the guests, and Francisco Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks.
