Sports Minister Govind Gaude on Thursday said he would try to create an exclusive stadium for international cricket matches in the State.
At present, the Pandit Nehru Stadium at Fatorda is the only international stadium in the State with a seating capacity of 19,000. It is used mainly for football matches and some cricket matches. As a result, the stadium cannot have facilities such as pitches of international standard.
When asked by media persons, Gaude said he would put up a proposal before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to have an international stadium exclusive for cricket. "Football and cricket are two major games of Goa and we should have world class facilities for both these games," said Gaude.
The Goa Cricket Association has proposed to build a stadium at Dhargal in North Goa.
