Fernandes strike puts St Anthony's in final

A second-half strike by former Sporting Clube de Goa striker Vitorino Fernandes helped hosts St Anthony's Sports Club edge past Candolim Sports Club 1-0 to enter the final of St Anthony's Festival Cup 2023 inter-village football tournament organized by St Anthony's Sports Club Assolda at Moll Ground, Assolda on Sunday.

Egged on by a home crowd, St Anthony's showed urgency and fired sorties against the rival citadel. At the other end, Candolim mounted pressure on the rival citadel but the Assolda rearguard was alert in frustrating their attacks.

The second half turned livelier with both the teams getting aggressive in their approach. The all-important goal was scored by Vitorino Fernandes who slotted past the rival goalkeeper in the 60th minute. The final between Guirdolim Club and St Anthony's Club Assolda will be played on July 16.

Dunes SC thrash hosts Young Strikers 4-0
Dunes Sports Club Mandrem trounced hosts Young Strikers of Benaulim 4-0 to enter the semifinals of the Jaju Memorial inter-village football tournament played at Dando ground, Benaulim on Sunday.

Dunes SC led 2-0 with a fine brace from Vivek Naik at halftime. Dunes SC Mandrem added two more goals in the second session through Anthony Lobo and substitute striker Arjun Shetgaonkar.

MARGAOThe first Annual General Body meeting of the Goa Football Association under the tenure of Dr Caitano Fernandes ended with clubs praising the efforts of the newly elected Executive Committee in largely bridging most of the financial deficit from the previous tenures.The sponsorship income has also doubled this year while the association's effective deficit was only Rs 5 lakh, a massive improvement from the earlier terms, the GFA said.The president in his report…
