The football season in Goa will kick off with Goa Professional League, tentatively scheduled to begin in December 2020, Goa Football Association decided at its executive committee meeting on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Sporting Clube de Goa and Churchill FC were declared as joint winners of the suspended edition of the Pro League while all eight teams of second division league who were in the playoffs have been promoted with no relegation.
GFA confirmed the decision of giving the title sponsorship of the Pro League to Kolkata firm Accord Sports. The GFA also decided not to waive off their share of CRS.
Anthony Barbosa of Raitura Sports Club has been co-opted in place of late Santarita Babush Coelho, who died recently. Incidentally, Raia village has two more executive members, Anthony Pango, the vice-president (South), and Cosme Olveira.
Last season, Pro League had to be suspended after all sporting activities in the state had to be stopped in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The restart of the top-tier league in the State will be a welcome boost to all Goan footballers and officials alike, most of whom are significantly dependent on the game.
