A dominant bowling performance by Goa ensured that Sikkim were bundled out for just 108 runs in 46.5 overs on the opening day of Ranji Trophy match at the SICA Ground in Rangpo, Sikkim.
Goan bowlers were lethal in their attack with all five of them picking up at least a wicket. Heramb Parab was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 42 runs. Skipper Darshan Misal, Mohit Redkar and Arjun Tendulkar bagged 2 wickets each while Shubham Tari took 1 wicket.
It was a very poor batting display by Sikkim on their home ground with only three of their batters reaching the double digit mark.
Electing to bat first, Sikkim struggled from the start with their key batters like Arun Chettri (7), Pankaj Kumar Rawat (7) and Nilesh Lamichaney (4) falling cheaply.
Parth Palawat top scored with 39 runs off 65 balls. Ankur Malik contributed 22 runs off 32 balls while Palzor Tamang added 19 off 16 balls.
Two Sikkim batters were dismissed for a duck including their captain Lee Yong Lepcha whose wicket was taken by Goan skipper Darshan Misal.
Sikkim who were 54/4 in 25 overs at lunch, were bowled out for 108 in 46.5 overs just before tea. Goa gave away just 5 extra runs.
In reply, Goa riding on Suyash Prabhudessai’s half-century were in a comfortable position at 90/0 in 25 overs at close of stumps on day 1.
Suyash Prabhudessai who hit a six and six 4s remained unbeaten on 50 runs off 83 balls along with his opening partner Rohan Kadam who also playing at the crease on 36 runs off 67 balls.
Goa still trail Sikkim by 18 runs with 10 wickets in hand.
In their first Ranji match this season, Goa had beaten Manipur by 9 wickets while Sikkim had defeated Mizoram by 137 runs.
