The High Court has postponed the election of the Cycling Association of Goa, which was set to take place on Friday.
The court instructed the petitioners to bring their concerns about voting rights to the Inspector General of Societies. The court stated that once the IG makes a decision regarding these voting rights, a new election process can begin.
The petitioners, including well-known Goan citizens and cycling organizations, had argued that the association has faced serious issues such as poor management, financial misconduct, and unfair practices in membership and elections. They had claim these problems have negatively impacted the sport and violated their rights as athletes and stakeholders.
The petitioners alleged that the leaders of the association have limited membership to a select few, ensuring they maintain control. They argue that many legitimate applicants, including cyclists and clubs, have been unfairly denied membership, effectively treating the association as a personal property.
