Goa held to 2-2 draw by Punjab

MARGAO

Goa’s campaign in the Junior Boys National Football Tournament for the Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy came to an end after a 2-2 draw against Punjab in their final league match, played at the Sahibzada Fateh Singh Football Stadium, Amritsar.

With only 2 points from 3 matches, Goa failed to advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Crossley Warren Dias and Rahul Sherpali were the scorers for Goa, while Taibang Nganba Takhellambam and Jashandeep Singh netted one each for Punjab in a closely contested encounter.

Goa showed promise throughout the game, dominating large spells and creating chances. However, lapses in possession and focus at key moments allowed Punjab to capitalize.

“We dominated the game and showed effectiveness in our play, but lapses in possession and concentration cost us,” said Shane Temudo, head coach of the Goa team.

“The boys showed character and resilience, especially with the late equaliser. We could have won the game”missed chances were a key factor in us not reaching the top. Still, I’m proud of the team’s performance. They’ve shown quality football and will only grow stronger with this experience,” he added.
