The inaugural edition of Goa Navy Marathon (GNM) 2024, organised by Indian Navy in association with Indian Oil and Brooks running held at INS Mandovi received overwhelming response with around 1200 runners excitedly participated in the race.
The event was conducted in three categories namely 21K,10k and 5k under various age group categories .The programme drew attendees from a variety of groups, including women, old citizens, children, youth, and navy personnel.
Cmde Prashant Chowdhary ,VSM CO Mandovi flagged off the 21km Half Marathon, which attracted over 200 participants. The 10km race drew over 430 participants, and Cmde Sanjay Panda(Retd) gave the start signal. Over 500 runners participated in the five-kilometer race, which was flagged off by Cmde G Prakash( Retd).
The GNM race began from INS Mandovi Verem to St Anthony’s Chapel turning right to St Alex Church and back. This route offers one of the flattest terrain for half marathon and 10km run in Goa.
In the men's open division, the winner of the half marathon, was Siddhesh Barje (1 hour and 09 minutes) and in the women's division, the winner of the half marathon, was Sapna Patel (1h 29 min) respectively.
Hydration and refreshment stations were set up at various locations along the stretch for the benefit of the runners.
