Goa will be one of the three venues for U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, FIFA confirmed on Wednesday. The world football body announced that the draw for the tournament will take place in Zurich on 24 June. Bhubaneswar and Navi Mumbai are the other host cities.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium, and Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium have been announced as the three venues that will welcome some of the brightest emerging talents and future stars of women’s football later this year. As well as hosts India, six countries “ Brazil, Chile, China PR, Colombia, Japan and New Zealand “ have been confirmed for the competition so far and are sure to feature in the draw on 24 June. With a total of 16 teams set to contest the tournament, spots are still up for grabs in several confederations.
Sarai Bareman, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer, said, “Following the recent FIFA visit to India, this is an important step forward and marks the start of the final countdown towards the tournament. We would like to thank the AIFF, the LOC and all the stakeholders for their support throughout the last two years as we have dealt with the evolving nature of the pandemic.
