Hyderabad FC is gearing up for its first match of the ISL season under new head coach Thangboi Singto and a revamped ownership structure. The team aims for a fresh start after struggling in previous seasons, where they lost their opening matches three times in a row.
Bengaluru FC, on the other hand, is looking to maintain its impressive record at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. They have never lost a game at home when leading at half-time, and the Blues are determined to secure consecutive victories against Hyderabad FC, having only managed two wins in their last ten meetings.
Singto addressed the challenges of assembling a competitive squad on short notice. "It's been an enormous challenge for us," he said. "From the outside, it might look like the previous owners weren't doing their best, but they were dedicated. Now, we want to focus on building a new mindset and moving forward."
Singto emphasized that he doesn't want to set specific targets for the season just yet. "We want to progress from last season and focus on our development. The next two or three matches will be crucial as some overseas players are yet to join us. Once they integrate, we will have a clearer idea of our goals."
Reflecting on the match against Bengaluru FC, Singto recalled last season's narrow defeat, conceding a last-minute goal. "We fought hard last time, and we'll take the positives into this match," he said. "Bengaluru is an exemplary club in Indian football, known for its structured approach."
When asked about the new players, Singto expressed optimism. "Most of the Indian players I wanted are here, and we are still looking for a couple of foreign signings," he noted. "The process is on the right track, and we have a plan in place."
Singto also highlighted the importance of young players stepping up this season. "They need to work hard and prove their worth. Football is about goals and points, and we need to improve on that," he said.
As the match approaches, Singto acknowledged the tough competition they will face. "Bengaluru FC has a strong bench, and this game will be one of our toughest," he admitted. "Physically, we may not be at our best yet, but we'll give it our all."
The excitement is building for the match, and Hyderabad FC is ready to embrace the challenges ahead. "We are looking forward to this season and hope to make a positive impact," Singto.
Goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh who recently joined Hyderabad FC for the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season, ahead of his team's first match against Bengaluru FC, Arshdeep shared his thoughts about the move and the upcoming season.
Arshdeep, 26, when asked why he made the switch from FCGoa to Hyderabad FC, he said, “There’s no exact reason. It’s just part of the game. I felt that Hyderabad FC was the right choice for me at this time.” He also mentioned his previous experience with coach Thangboi Singto, whom he worked with at Odisha FC. “We have a very good relationship, and he told me that I would be a good addition to the team,” Arshdeep explained.
As for his goals for the season, Arshdeep emphasized taking it one match at a time. “Right now, we’re focused on tomorrow’s match against Bengaluru. We want to give our best and be competitive,” he said. He acknowledged that while the squad is young, they also have experienced players like Lenny Rodrigues, which he believes will help the team.
Arshdeep is looking forward to the challenge ahead and is confident that they will perform well. "We’re ready to give our best,” he added with a smile.
The match against Bengaluru FC is set to take place on Thursday evening, and all eyes will be on Arshdeep as he takes the field for his new club.
