Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim played a goalless draw with St Xavier's HS Lupungutu, West Singhbhum, Jharkhand in their opening Pool G match of the Subroto Mukerjee Under-15 football tournament in Bengaluru on Monday while in Pool A, 01 Goa Battalion NCC went down 0-4 to NNM HSS, Chelembra Malappuram, Kerala.
The Navelim school put up a good show with the goalkeeper standing tall to whatever was thrown in his direction. The defenders also repulsed several threats from the Jharkhand school to keep a clean slate.
Perpetual Succour play their next two matches on August 20 and 21 against St Stephen's School, Chandigarh and Air Force School (TAFS), New Delhi, respectively.
01 Goa Battalion NCC, who qualified after winning the Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate NCC qualifiers held at St Paul’s High School in Belagavi, were no match for the Kerala school, as they picked holes four times in the Goan team's defence.
The NCC team which comprises cadets from schools that were eliminated in earlier rounds of the State Subroto Cup competition and from remote areas of Goa, such as Keri, Sattari, Marcela, and Bicholim, where schools did not participate in the tournament, will take on Maharana Pratap Sports College, Uttarakhand and Army Boys Sports Coy, Bengaluru in the next two days.
