The timely intervention by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar enabled a group of Goa Team Cestoball players to leave for the National Games at Punjab on Tuesday afternoon, after he arranged a special coach on the train for the team.

According to information, the Goan Cestoball squad comprising around 36 players representing three teams of Sub Junior Boys, Seniors and Sub Junior Girls and coaches were unable to get train tickets to travel to Punjab.

They then approached Amonkar for help who took up the matter with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and got the team a separate coach on the Goa Express train for their travel to and from Punjab.

Amonkar, who was at the Vasco Railway Station to send off the players, informed the media that most players were from the Mormugao constituency and the Mormugao taluka.

"It is a proud moment that our Cestoball team is going to participate in the nationals at Punjab on December 15. I want to thank the CM Dr Pramod Sawant because he specially called the South Western Railway for an additional coach to ferry the players to Punjab on the Goa Express train. The players had approached me after they could not get reserved tickets and I took the issue with CM on priority.”

“Today, the team got a separate coach to travel to and from Punjab and I am confident of their success at the nationals. Two years ago, our Cestoball team won bronze and last year, they won silver for the State. I hope this time they get us the gold medal. I will continue to support all athletes and will work to get them all possible benefits from the government," said Amonkar.
