Navelim SC beat Verna SC 9-8 via the tiebreaker to emerge champions of the Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament played at Padribhat football ground, on Sunday.
The teams were tied 3-3 at full time. Navelim SC started on an attacking note with striker Clinton Niasso scoring three quick goals in the 12th, 19th and 23rd minutes. Verna SC played an attacking game in the second session and equalised after Sairon Albuquerque scored a brace while Ajay Satarkar netted their third goal.
In the tiebreaker, Navelim SC proved to be the better shooters. Navelim SC were richer by Rs 60,000 and a trophy while Verna SC had to be content with Rs 40,000.

Velim Mla Cruz Silva was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Rev Fr Damaciano Carvalho, parish priest of St Joseph Church, Sao Jose de Areal ZP member Michelle Rebello, Sarpanch Linda Fernandes and South Goa referees officer Joaquin Manuel.
