MARGAO: Navelim Sports Club emerged victorious over St. Anthony's Sports Club to secure a spot in the 22nd Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial tournament finals. The thrilling encounter, held at Musson grounds, Majorda organized by Associacao Academica de Majorda-Utorda-Calata, culminated in a tie-breaker that saw Navelim triumph 8-7, following a 2-2 deadlock in regulation time.
Navelim Sports Club initially capitalised on their possessive prowess to secure a two-goal advantage, courtesy of Prestly Gomes and Velington Almeida. Assolda, however, exhibited remarkable resilience in the second half, ultimately leveling the score with goals from Viton Fernandes and Sunny Fernandes, forcing the match into a dramatic penalty shootout.
The intense match eventually required 16 penalties to determine the winner, with Valento Fernandes of Assolda unable to convert his penalty.
