Pedem Boys stunned Agonda Boys via the tie-breaker 5-3 to win the Agonda Village Panchayat taluka level football tournament.
Following a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. Pedem Boys striker Rancher D’Souza scored the first penalty in the tie-breaker, while Pedem Boys goalkeeper (Captain) Cajy D’Silva blocked the first penalty shoot taken by Agonda boys striker Plim Fernandes.
Ronald Oliveira, Beron Fernandes, Alrich Barretto and Myron Fernandes scored the penalties for Pedem Boys, while Shain, Pritish and Romanrio converted their attempts into goals for Agonda Boys.
Earlier in the semi finals Agonda boys have defeated Palolkem boys by 2-0, while Pedem Boys did the short work of Canacona U17 by 3-0.
Interestingly, Goalkeeper D’Silva had a wonderful match saving as many as eight shot with his individual efforts, this included three long-range shots from Agonda striker Branon Rodrigues. Cajy D’Silva is adjudged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Agonda’s Rossman Fermnandes won the the best player trophy, while Rancher awarded for being the first scorer of the finals.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 40,000 which is handed over by NRI Commissioner and Ex-MP(South) Adv. Narendra Savoikar. Agonda Boys had to be content with a cash prize of Rs.30,000 in the presence of GFA Executive Committee member Francisco Nunes, Agonda Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes, BJP State Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat, ZP(Khola) Shanu Velip, Khola Sarpanch Krishna Velip, CMC Ex-Chairperson and Councillor Simon Rebello, Canacona APEO Kishore Bandekar, Sidharth Dessai and other officials.
