Salgaocar FC registered a fluent 4-2 win over hosts Goa Police SC to move ahead in the 18th edition of the Goa Police Football Cup, organised by Goa Police Sports Cell at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday. Salgaocar were right after it at the start of the game and took the lead as Sourabh Patil netted a goal off a corner to grab an early edge in the exciting encounter. Whereas it didn't take long for the Goa Police side to respond and Abdul Khan found himself in an ideal position to slot the ball past the rival goalkeeper to make it 1-1. In the 15th minute, Salgaocar's Krishnanath Shirodkar was found from a corner and made no mistake in putting the Greens ahead, 2-1. At the half-hour mark, Goa Police were level again as Bhavesh Candolkar struck a powerful shot into the goal leaving the rival goalkeeper clueless 2-2. After resuming play, in the 52nd minute, Salgaocar's Sidharth Kundaikar's left-footed strike left the Goa Police goalkeeper stranded, 3-2. Goa Police tried hard to regroup changing a few tired legs upfront but nothing seemed to work as the Salgaocar defence remained firm behind. In the closing stages of the match, Samuel Costa netted the fourth goal with a 25-yard beauty making it 4-2. Sidharth Kundaikar received the man of the match award.
