In a dramatic Sunday showdown at Benaulim, Pax of Nagoa edged past Vasco SC with a 2-1 win, vaulting to second place in the Goa Professional League.
The nail-biting match saw Nagoa rally late in the game to secure a victory that places them just one point behind league leaders Sesa FA.
The game opened with Nagoa setting a vigorous pace, as Shubert Pereira took charge of the offensive efforts. Despite a series of robust attempts and a solid performance in the first half, Nagoa was initially thwarted by Vasco SC's sturdy defence.
It wasn't until the second half that Pereira broke the stalemate, striking a powerful shot from the edge of the area three minutes after the interval, following a critical rebound.
Vasco SC responded with resilience, levelling the score in the 76th minute through Chadel Fernandes, who skillfully headed in a cross from the right flank. The match seemed poised for a draw as both teams battled for control.
However, a strategic move by Nagoa’s coach Mateus shifted the momentum. Introducing substitute Beevan D'mello proved to be a game-changer. As the match entered stoppage time, a blocked shot from Sherwin Abranches fell perfectly to D'mello, who decisively fired the ball into the net, clinching a last-minute win for Pax of Nagoa.
