Parish Youth Nuvem emerged victorious as they comfortably defeated United SC Seraulim 3-2 in the tiebreaker to enter the quarterfinals of the 32nd Super Soccer tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva in memory of late Joao Francis Fernandes at Dando Ground, Benaulim on Saturday.
In the 7th minute, Jonas Colaco’s shot was pushed away by Nuvem keeper Mecklan. The first half ended goalless. The second half saw an improved performance from Nuvem as Mecklan’s shot was saved by Seraulim keeper Grayson. The match ended in a goalless draw. In the tiebreaker, Nuvem proved to be the better shooters.
DBO Fatorda thrash Sai Avtar 5-0
Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda entered the semifinals of 33rd All Goa St Anne's Inter-Village Soccer 2023 played in memory of late Maria Anatansia Fernandes at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti Ponda, on Saturday.
Don Bosco defeated Sai Avtar Anjuna 5-0. The goal scorers were Wedly Barreto, Faheez (own goal), Sarinco Fernandes, Veiton D Souza and Clive Miranda. Earlier, Vincent Paul Fernandes, the son of late Maria A Fernandes, inaugurated the tournament and later gave away the Man of the Match award to Velito Barreto of Fatorda.
Dramapur SC shoot past SJD Areal into semis
Dramapur SC defeated Sao Jose de Areal SC 5-2 via the tiebreaker to enter the semifinals of the 50th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament played at Raia Panchayat ground on Saturday.
Dramapur took the lead through Nash Fernandes in the 10th minute. Areal equalized through Piedade Rebello in the 29th minute before the break. In the second session, Dramapur SC regained the lead through Nigel Fernandes. In the last minute, Bersal Viegas' header forced the match into a shootout.
In the tiebreaker, Chadel Fernandes, Leslie Costa and Piedade Rebello shot on target but Areal failed to convert all their three kicks.
7-a-side football tourney on Aug 15
Youth Club of Tembi Curtorim will organise a 7-a-side football tournament on August 15 at Tembi ground, Curtorim. The winners will receive Rs 40,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 30,000. Only 16 teams will be allowed to participate. For details, contact Glen (7038616186 / 9923260802).
Handball second phase trials on July 20
Goa Handball Association will conduct its 2nd and final phase selection trials to pick the State men’s and women’s senior handball teams that will participate in the forthcoming 37th National Games to be held in Goa. Those who couldn’t make it for the first phase of selection have been invited on July 20 at Manohar Parrikar indoor stadium at 3.30 pm. Rosary Veterans football tournament organized by Rosary Parish Veterans Davorlim will kick off on July 17 at Davorlim ground. In all, 16 teams will participate. Attractive cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up.
OL Succour, Saviour of the World, King’s, Loyola move ahead
OL of Succour HS of Nagoa, Saviour of the World HS of Loutolim, The King’s School of Sao Jose de Areal and Loyola HS of Margao moved ahead in the U-14 Boys Subroro Mukherjee inter-school football tournament played at Dramapur Football ground on Saturday.
In the first match, OL of Succour HS defeated Asumpta Convent HS of Sarzora 3-0. Saviour of the World HS trounced AIM Salcete HS of Davorlim 6-0 while The King’s School hammered Cuncolim United HS of Cuncolim 7-0. In the last match of the day, Loyola HS also defeated OL of Rosary HS Fatorda 7-0.
Damodar HSS, Gudi Zone IV Badminton champs
Damodar HSS of Gudi-Paroda defeated CTN HSS of Curchorem 2-0 to emerge champs of the Zone IV boys inter-higher secondary badminton tournament organized by DSYA at Borimol Sports Complex, Quepem.
In the first singles, Vikrant Gawas defeated Rahul Revonkar 10-21, 22-20, 21-11 while in the second singles, Wiglan Jacques defeated Pratush Naik 18-21, 21-11, 21-16. Wiglan Jacques, Vikrant Gawas, Rahul Pujar, Sarvesh Naik and Ravikiran Naik represented Damodar HSS. The Zone IV winners Damodar HSS will now represent South in the inter-zone finals against Zone III winners at Navelim indoor stadium.
