Sao Jose de Areal emerged victorious with an impressive 4-1 win against Cuncolim Union to secure their place in the semifinals of the 32nd Super Soccer Tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva in memory of late Joao Francis Fernandes played at Dando Ground, Benaulim on Tuesday. Mohd Mansoori set the tone with an early goal in the first minute. Cuncolim Union responded strongly, equalising in the 15th minute with Tushar Gaokar's brilliant dribble past three defenders before scoring. However, the second half belonged to Sao Jose de Areal, as they dominated the game and netted three more goals in quick succession through Viegas, Ashnoy Gomes, and Alister Monteiro in the 53rd, 54th, and 56th minutes respectively. Ashnoy Gomes was awarded the Man of the Match by Coach Mathew D’Costa of Pax of Nagoa.
Navelim Villagers Union move into quarters
MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union made a good start to their defence as they edged out Mormugao United Sports and Cultural Club 7-6 via tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinal of the 24th All Goa Our Lady of Merces Intervillage Tournament organised by Sirlim SC at Chinchinim Church Ground on Monday. Mark Gomes scored for Navelim in the 6th and tenth minute while Sidney Lucas netted a brace for Mormugao in the 23rd and 36th minutes respectively. In the tiebreaker, Clinton Niasso, Terrance Miranda, Dunstan Fernandes, Valinton DSilva and Nash Pereira found the back of the net for Navelim while Johnson Horta, Sherwyn Abranches, Johann Mesquita and Sidney Lucas scored for Mormugao.
Infant Jesus, RMS progress in Subroto Cup
MARGAO: Infant Jesus Academy, Velsao beat St Joseph Vaz School, Sancoale 4-0 in the Subroto Mukherjee Inter-School Football tournament for Boys U-17 organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at the Regina Mundi ground, Chicalim. In the second match, Regina Mundi School, Chicalim defeated Vadem Nagar High School 12-0. Regina Mundi were leading 6-0 at half time.
