Sporting Club Davorlim emerged victorious over Fr Agnel Youth Club Paroda, winning 6-5 in a dramatic tiebreaker to claim the Chandor Seamen Cup Inter-Village Football Tournament. The match, held at the Chandor Church Ground on Sunday, ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time.
Davorlim took the lead in the 20th minute with a penalty kick converted by William Niasso. However, Fr Agnel YSC responded fiercely in the second half, equalising in the 50th minute through Velroy Carvalho.
In the tiebreaker, Davorlim's William Niasso, Aeren Figueiredo, M Ajay Raj, Prince Figueiredo, and Venson Figueiredo successfully scored, while Fr Agnel's Melson Fernandes, Reagan Costa, Pascoal Fernandes, and Salvin Fernandes also shot on target. Ultimately, Davorlim prevailed, securing a prize of Rs 80,000 along with the trophy, while Fr Agnel YSC received Rs 60,000 and a trophy for their efforts.
The event was graced by chief guest Yuri Alermao, Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA, along with other guests, including Capt Viriato Fernandes (MP, South Goa), Altone D'Costa (MLA, Quepem Constituency), Fr Jean Da Cruz Fernandes (Parish Priest, Chandor), Amit Patkar (President, GPCC), Fr Eremito Rebello (Chaplain, SFX Chapel Guirdolim).
Individual Awards: Best Goalkeeper - Francisco Colaco (SC Davorlim), Best Defender - Sanju Trikonni (SC Davorlim), Best Midfielder - Melson Fernandes (Fr. Agnel YSC Paroda), Best Striker - Velroy Carvalho, Hero of the Tournament - William Niasso (SC Davorlim).
