Verna Sports Club entered the finals of 33rd All Goa St Anne's Inter-Village Soccer 2023 played at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti Ponda on Wednesday.
Verna SC defeated Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 5-4 via tiebreaker after the match ended in a goalless draw. In the tiebreaker, Andrew John, Sairon Albuquerque, Savio Pereira, Fulgancio Cardozo, Desmond Pereira scored for Verna SC. Roque Borges, Charles Miranda, Clive Miranda, Velton D'Souza scored for Don Bosco.
Now they await the winners of the next semis between Navelim Sporting and Sinquerim SC to be played on Thursday. Paulo Vaz proprietor of Vaz Cateries gave away the man-of-the match award to keeper Royal Moniz of Verna.
PVC Association get the better YSC Colvale
PVC Association defeated Youth Sports Club of Colvale 2-1 to move into the next round of the 23rd Vagator Soccer 2023 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, on Wednesday.
Colvale took the lead in the 13th minute through Roger Miranda. In the 29th minute, Parra scored the equalizer when a 25-yard free kick was awarded to them and Girish Naik sent a floater to Pruthvesh Pednekar, who headed it in.
In the second half, a goalkeeping error by the Colvale keeper Sahil Kambli in the 68th minute cost his team as he caught the ball outside the penalty area giving away a silly freekick to Parra. Pruthvesh Pednekar made no mistake as he scored a brace with a clean strike.
The man-of-the-match prize was awarded to Pruthvesh Pednekar of PVC Association by Claudio Pacheco.
Ameya gets podium finish in Slovakia Chess
International Master Audi Ameya finished 6th in the just concluded Slovakia Chess Open A Piestany 2023-Open. Ameya had earlier won the championship in the Ceske Budejovice Open A and he continued with his good form in Slovakia, where he began as the 17th seed.
Ameya defeated IM Kosakowski Jakub (Poland), FM Farkus Gabur (SVK), AIM Nagarkatte Vedant (India), WIM Rakshitta Ravi(India), and drew with GM Livaic Leon (CRO), GM Acgel Gergely(Hun), IM Sahidi Samir (SVK) and FM Anand Batsukh (MGL). Ameya had 4 wins and 4 draws to tally 6 out of possible 9 rounds.
Ameya was the championship contender until round 8, he narrowly missed first place when he suffered a loss in the final round against the first seed GM Pechac Jergus(SVK), and had to settle for the 6th place. Ameya put up a rating performance of 2526. IM Kosakowski Jakub (Poland) and GM Pechac Jergus(SVK)won the first and second place respectively with 7 points each based on tie break. There were in all 74 players from 21 different countries.
