Wilred Leisure SC from Curtorim secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup after defeating United Club Verna 2-0 in a match held at the Chandor Church Sports Complex on Sunday.
The match began with United Club Verna applying immediate pressure on the Wilred defence. In the 6th minute, Verna’s Roydon Rego missed a golden opportunity to put his team ahead when he was unable to convert a one-on-one chance against Wilred keeper Johnson Bogot. Following a corner kick, Clifton Rebello of Verna also failed to capitalise, sending his shot high over the goal.
Taking advantage of the missed chances, Wilred launched a counter-attack, and John Fernandes found the net with a well-placed header from a cross by Eusebio, giving Wilred a 1-0 lead. Despite Verna's persistent efforts to level the score, they were unable to convert their chances, and the teams went into halftime with Wilred leading.
After the break, United Club Verna continued to attack, and in the 37th minute, Savio Pereira attempted to lob the Wilred keeper, only for Bogot to make an impressive fingertip save. In the 47th minute, Wilred's Nallister Silveira beat the offside trap and skillfully scored past the advancing Verna goalkeeper, extending the lead to 2-0.
In the closing moments of the match, Eusebio missed another scoring opportunity for Wilred, but it did not affect the final outcome. The match concluded with a 2-0 victory for Wilred Leisure SC.
Nallister Silveira was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance and received the prize from Inacio Noronha.
