The BMW X3 has long enjoyed a reputation as the enthusiast’s pick in the midsize luxury SUV segment. With the 30 xDrive M Sport Pro, BMW pushes that identity even further. This is currently the most potent X3 in the Indian lineup, and it doesn’t just rely on numbers to impress. It blends performance, technology, and everyday usability into a package that feels distinctly BMW.

At first glance, it may not look dramatically different from the standard X3, but spend time with it and the upgrades begin to reveal themselves. This version feels more focused, more assertive, and more complete — like BMW refining a formula it already understands exceptionally well.

Exteriors

The M Sport Pro treatment adds noticeable character without going overboard. You get a gloss-black kidney grille with BMW’s illuminated Iconic Glow surround, smoked headlamps and tail-lamps, red M Sport brake callipers, and striking 20-inch M alloy wheels.

The overall proportions remain classic X3 — balanced and muscular — but these darker accents make it appear wider and lower. It has a more planted stance, and the detailing gives it added road presence. The subtle “X3 30” badging at the rear quietly signals that this isn’t the regular variant. It’s understated, but confident.

InteriorsInside, BMW has addressed one of the earlier criticisms of the X3 — perceived cabin quality. This updated version feels noticeably more premium. Soft-touch materials across the dashboard and door pads lift the ambience, while small touches like M seat belts add a sporty flourish.

The layout remains clean and driver-centric. It’s modern without being flashy. The front seats are supportive and well-bolstered, offering excellent under-thigh support and a wide range of electric adjustments. Whether you’re commuting or pushing hard on a winding road, they strike the right balance between comfort and grip.

Rear seat space is respectable. Knee room and headroom are adequate for average-sized adults, but the backrest angle feels slightly upright. Under-thigh support at the rear is acceptable, though not exceptional. On longer journeys, rear passengers may wish for a slightly more relaxed seating angle.

Practicality, however, is strong. The door pockets easily swallow large bottles, the cup holders are well-sized, and the upright wireless charging pad is thoughtfully positioned for easy visibility.

Tech & featuresBMW hasn’t held back on equipment. The ventilated front seats, expansive panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and 360-degree camera system all add to the premium experience.

The augmented reality heads-up display stands out, projecting navigation cues clearly and making city driving more intuitive. The Harman Kardon sound system delivers impressive clarity and depth, enhancing long drives.

The infotainment system is slick, responsive, and easy to navigate. The crystal-style rotary controller adds a tactile, premium feel and remains one of the most intuitive ways to interact with a screen while driving.

That said, the shift to touch-capacitive climate controls can be distracting. The absence of physical buttons means less tactile feedback, and the integrated door controls for AC and seat memory are easy to brush accidentally.

Engine

Powering the X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with 48V mild-hybrid assistance. It produces 258bhp and 400Nm, sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The performance is smooth and immediate. There’s minimal turbo lag, and acceleration feels strong and linear. Even at cruising speeds of 70–80kmph, the SUV responds instantly to throttle inputs, delivering brisk in-gear acceleration.

The gearbox deserves praise too — shifts are quick and seamless, complementing the engine’s responsiveness perfectly.

DriveThis is where the X3 truly distinguishes itself. The steering is beautifully weighted, offering a reassuring heft without feeling heavy. It feels precise, predictable, and confidence-inspiring, especially as speeds rise.

Despite being an SUV, body roll is impressively controlled. The X3 feels composed through corners, allowing you to carry speed without drama. The adaptive suspension constantly adjusts based on road conditions and driving style.

In Comfort mode, it smooths out imperfections and feels relaxed. Switch to Sport, and the suspension firms up noticeably, sharpening the overall driving experience. The transformation between modes is tangible, giving the X3 multiple personalities depending on your mood.

Refinement levels are excellent. Wind, road, and tyre noise are well suppressed, and the cabin remains calm even at highway speeds.

Safety

The X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro comes comprehensively equipped with safety features. Multiple airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, parking assist functions, drive recorder capability, and BMW’s digital key technology all come standard.

It feels reassuringly complete, delivering the kind of safety net expected at this price point.

Verdict

The BMW X3 30 xDrive M Sport Pro is a meaningful evolution of an already capable SUV. It looks sharper, feels more premium inside, and delivers a genuinely engaging driving experience. While the touch-heavy interface may not appeal to everyone and rear seat comfort could be improved, these are relatively minor drawbacks in an otherwise well-rounded package.

If driving pleasure matters to you — even in a luxury SUV — this remains one of the strongest options in the segment.
