PANAJI: BMW India has opened bookings for the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB), ahead of its official launch on August 21, 2026. The SUV will be locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant and joins the iX1 LWB, which is already on sale in India as the brand’s electric long-wheelbase SUV.
The India-spec X1 LWB will be powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The existing X1 18i version develops 136hp, with the LWB expected to retain a similar powertrain configuration.
Measuring 4,616mm in length with a wheelbase of around 2,800mm, the X1 LWB offers significantly more rear-seat space than the standard X1. Features are expected to include BMW’s curved display setup, panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, wireless charging, digital key, connected technology, parking assistance and premium audio.
The X1 LWB will compete with the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40, while its extended wheelbase gives it a distinct space advantage in the segment. BMW is yet to announce its price, which will be revealed at launch.
