Sticking on to the Shigmo, the small-time politicians seem to have hijacked the celebrations from right under the nose of the Mapusa Shigmotsav Mandal which comprised of some prominent citizens of Mapusa. The councillors of the Mapusa Municipal Council were never part of the Shigmo organising committee.
For the first time the city-fathers have deftly sidelined the civilians who were involved in the celebrations and forced themselves into the organising committee. “Kitem challam kaich kolona. Yeh councillor soglleak bottam galunk laglea (Don’t know what’s going on. These councillors seem to be interferring in every field),” expressed one of the citizens who has been actively involved in Shigmo celebrations. Looks like bonanza time for the councillors of Mapusa. And why not. If the sun shines why would they not make hay?!
