Shigmo parade: Mapusa’s loss is Porvorim’s gain

Mapxecars are cheesed off and for good reason. For the last forty years the Shigmo celebrations/parade was always taking place on a Sunday in the commercial capital of North Goa. This time, however, it has been suddenly shifted to a Monday for no valid reasons whatsoever. Mapusa’s loss has turned out to be neighbouring constituency Povorim’s gain.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has once again managed to pull a trump card and take the Shigmo parade in his pocket borough on a beautiful Sunday! The decision has shocked the citizenry of Mapusa who were all set to celebrate the annual parade as usual on a Sunday which is a relaxing day due to weekend holiday and less flow of traffic. Tongues started wagging whether Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza fell short in convincing the decision makers to reserve Sunday for Mapusa.

Distressed with the decision, some citizens called on the local MLA and explained to him the significance of having the Shigmo parade on a Sunday. The MLA has apparently given a ray of hope to the citizens but the fotashi team feels the goose is already cooked and any howling and protests now is like pouring water on the cooked goose’s back.
