Citing benefit of doubt, District and Sessions court, Panaji acquitted all seven accused in the case of an attack on social activists Adv Aires Rodrigues and Prof Prajal Sakhardande in 2008.

In October 2008, Adv Rodrigues and Prof Sakhardande were attacked by six persons.

Of these, one, Dinesh Patil, is still absconding.

Rodrigues and Sakhardande were attacked outside Hotel Ashok in Panaji by the accused, who had their faces covered. They attackers were armed with knives, rods, swords and bottles and inflicted grievous injuries on the two activists.

While Sakhardande suffered injuries to his head and ear, Adv Rodrigues sustained injuries on his fingers.

The attack was suspected to have links with the fact that Adv Rodrigues was then instrumental in filing a case of sexual harassment on behalf of a German girl against the son of Antanasio 'Babush' Monserrate.
