After many disappointments, I finally got to enjoy a truly wonderful tiatr - total value for one`s time and money! Goem, Goenkar, Goemkarponn is indeed a superb attempt by Mariano Fernandes to pull Konkani tiatr out of the doldrums of mediocrity.
There is never a dull moment in this well-balanced and polished production and it reminds one of the tiatr of the yesteryears, produced by legends like M Boyer, C Alvares and Prem Kumar. The sets are amazingly innovative and quite likely to set a trend in the tiatr world. The music and the acoustics are pleasing to the senses.
The cast is very good and all the artists have done justice to their roles. Anne deserves a special mention for playing the role of a suffering mother to perfection. Another actor that stands out is Anil Padnekar: this Shakti Kapoor of the Konkani stage, although he plays the character of a villainous drug addict foreign returned son, draws more laughter than the comedians through his superb well-timed barbs.
Maggie and comedian Riza give enough hints of stars in the making! Ben Evangelisto rises above his many physical handicaps to make a grand comeback.
Engelbert Rose shows glimpses of his more illustrious father, the late Melody King Alfred Rose through his singing and yet retains his own individual style. The lovely Mangalorean lass, film actress Ester Noronha brings glamour to the Konkani tiatr stage in more than ample doses.
Mariano Fernandes, has undoubtedly stolen a march over his more seasoned playwrights with this production that conveys a important message even while it entertains!
