Avoid wastage of power supply

The electricity department intends to raise power tariffs to its consumers. Amidst such circumstances we notice a large quantity of precious power supply getting wasted due to streetlights not being switched off at prescribed timings. As on Friday, March 2, streetlights near Maruti temple at Varkhandem in Ponda were found switched on even at 9 am. On the same day, the high mast lamp near Naga Masjid Complex at Curti, also in Ponda was found functional at 3 pm. It was also noticed that out of total eight fixtures at this lamp, three were functional, while the remaining five fixtures were non-functional. The higher officials at the electricity department in Ponda should take a note of above important matters. Stern action should be initiated against officials who failed to switch off the streetlights at the appropriate timing. Similarly, five fixtures lying in non-working condition should be repaired on priority basis in the interest of travellers and pedestrians alike. Let us hope that the department would assure prompt favourable action in public interest.
