Empowering the UK

When Theresa May took over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom a few months ago, post the Brexit vote, little did people expect to see more women coming to the forefront of politics in the country. Now with Nigel Farage stepping down and making way for Harriet James to be the leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), two of the three prominent parties in the UK are headed by women. Incidentally, while there are a substantial number of women MPs today, they’re still massively outnumbered by their male counterparts.

But what is of real concern is the way men have been ‘abdicating’ leadership roles in favour of women. David Cameron refused to continue as prime minister once the country voted to ‘Leave’ the European Union. He was campaigning for people to ‘Remain’. He handed the reins over to May. Now Farage, who was the foremost voice of the ‘Leave’ campaign, has stepped down. Why? Apparently there are those in the know who state that Farage and Boris Johnson, his partner in ‘crime’ at the UKIP, do now know how to deal with Brexit now that the UK has to move out. Hopefully, James will steady that ship. Shame on the men in this regard.
