It is understood that the Vasco Police have arrested a man for growing ganja in an open space. Recently, a Russian national was caught growing marijuana in a greenhouse set up in a bungalow at Siolim. Narcotics worth Rs 10 lakhs were seized in the raid. Growing narcotic plants appears to be a new trend creeping in Goa. This method of carrying out drug trade obviously nullifies the possibility of being caught while smuggling drugs into the state and is a dangerous trend. The police need to keep a strict vigil on the plants grown in open spaces as the narcotic plants could even be grown among other normal plants to conceal the illicit trade. People also need to be vigilant against suspecting plantation. It would be in the fitness of things for citizens to be made aware of what narcotic plants look like so that any suspicious looking plants grown by individuals can be reported to the police.
