Freebies are paid for

Political opponents cry foul over free doles. They themselves recommend most undeserving individuals to reap future commitments. What about senior citizens who have bank deposits, own cars, run businesses, live in posh residences and sometimes are even drawing pensions, but who avail of doles? There are beneficiaries not residing in Goa and are even staying abroad; right to information replies on the process of granting are sometimes deliberately delayed or misdirected. The doles to motorcycle pilots, fisherman during off seasons, freedom fighters, people laid off due to mine closures, wedding cash for girls, women assistance etc are also doles.

Now new doles by way of three LED bulbs are an attractive means though they cost a pittance in comparison. Instead much power could be saved by efficient meters, changing age old supply lines, power thefts by industries, individuals, meter tampering with tacit understanding and overlooking on purpose All other subsidies that the government distributes are at the end of the day paid for by every citizen by way of taxes.

Targetting AAP

I hesitated to comment on arrested AAP persons in Delhi as I was not sure if they were guilty or not, however on now a general view, I am convinced that Modi's BJP government is getting very nervous and targeting AAP. For argument sake, leave aside those who were arrested on allegations right or wrong; why were the others transferred or intimidated at the same time and day? They have virtually paralyzed the Delhi government. I say this because now AAP is possible replacement to the failed BJP rule in Goa.

Brilliant Serena

Resplendent and ephemeral Serena Williams finally clinched that elusive 22nd Grand Slam title when she dished out a splendid exhibition of flawless tennis to prevail over the valiant Angelique Kerber, 7-5, 6-3 at the prestigious Wimbledon Centre court, her seventh title at the all-England club in nine final appearances, in the process matching Steffi Graf’s achievement of 22 Grand Slam titles. Pounding 13 aces in an awesome display of control, aggression and swiftness, she now trains her sights on Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slams, which the legendary Serena Williams is set to achieve, thus crowning her glittering career to become the greatest and the latest in the competitive game of tennis. On July 9 she showed immense maturity as she controlled her signature tantrum of slamming the racquet. A beaming and flamboyant Serena later thanked the entire audience who came to see her script history and perform an astonishing display of speed and power with clinical precision. Champagne stuff is the right word to describe her exploits and she is maturing into a player who her fans adore and who young girls should emulate. Her feats, a peering ray of golden hope in a world where competition is become all that more intense. In the tennis world it would not be a hyperbole to dub her as a rhapsody, a comedy, a symphony and a play.

Dubious inventory, land sales galore

To most an inventory is something to do with stock of goods in an establishment. In Goa, an inventory has a different connotation. Upon the death of a person inter-state, his estate is shared among his living relatives according the law established by the Portuguese. It is unique in the sense that it is applicable only in Goa. If feasible, each inheritor takes his part of the property according to his share as indicated in the inventory. If the property cannot be divided,…
