Sports and politics

It was surprising to note that the ‘master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar's "maiden" attempt to initiate discussion on sports in the Rajya Sabha was disrupted by the Congress party.
Incidentally the reason for the disruption had nothing to do with the topic on which Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar was to speak on. In fact it was on the important and non-political issue of sports and it's development in the country.
The protest was in fact a result of a demand of an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Congress party over remarks against predecessor Manmohan Singh, buoyed by the 2G case verdict.
It would be desirable for the Parliamentarians to raise an objection only when the relevant issue is being discussed and not when the focus is on an entirely different matter. Tendulkar was speaking on a subject on which he is most qualified to speak on.
The Upper House in the Parliament may have lost some important suggestions which the iconic cricketer was about to make. It may be so because our politicians probably do not consider development of sports in the country a more important topic to discuss than party politics. One has heard of politics entering the governing sports bodies in the country.
This disruption in the Rajya Sabha could also probably be considered as a case of politics affecting sports development in the country, though in an entirely different manner.
