Finally, the Mapusa Municipal Council unanimously passed a resolution against water diversion of Mhadei river without a word being spoken on the issue at a special council meeting early this week.
The whole issue smacked of utter casualness and it appeared that the exercise was carried out just as a matter of obligation.
The agenda of the meeting was ‘discussion on importance of Mhadei River and objections to its proposed diversion’.
But there was no discussion whatsoever.
Neither the chairperson nor any of the councillors thought it fit to speak on ‘Amchi Mhadei, Amchi Avoi’.
The callousness of the ruling BJP-group on the issue was completely exposed as it could not even draft a resolution on the issue.
Finally, the council hesitatingly accepted the resolution moved by opposition councilor Shashank Narvekar which the ruling group had rejected in the previous council meeting.
What an anti-climax!
