LONDON
The Colva Union UK celebrated its 51st annual Feast of Infant Jesus with great devotion, joy and traditional Goan hospitality at the Queen of Apostles Church, Heston, on October 17.
Over 200 people, including a large number of people hailing from Colva and friends from other Goan villages across the UK, attended the celebration.
The programme began with a Holy Mass at 4 pm which was celebrated by Fr Felix D'Silva. In his homily, Fr Felix reflected on the humble and divine life of Infant Jesus, reminding the faithful that though He is the King of Kings, He chose to come as a little child to teach us humility, innocence, forgiveness and child-like trust in God.
The Holy Mass was enriched by the choir led by Avisha Colaco along with singers from Cranford, whose melodious hymns created a deeply prayerful atmosphere.
Following the Mass, a devout procession carrying the statue of Infant Jesus was taken around the church compound, with the faithful joining in prayer. This was followed by the traditional distribution of ‘Bentina’ (sacred, blessed cords or scapulars).
The spiritual celebration was followed by a Dine & Dance get-together in the church hall.
The function was graced by Fr Luigi, Parish Priest of Queen of Apostles Church, Heston, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests present were Fr Rionel, Flavio Gracias (Senior Member of Colva Union UK), Portuguese Councillor Joao Pedro Cruz and Antonio Cunha, and Ravi Vaz (President of the G.O.A UK).
The evening was hosted by the MC Swiston, who engaged the audience and brought everyone onto the dance floor. Adding to the festive spirit was music by UK's Goan Band V5 led by Christy, who kept the crowd on their feet till the very end with their non-stop hits. Traditional Goan delicacies were prepared by the caterers, J3 Caterers, Hounslow.
The entire function was organised by the Colva Union UK committee under the leadership of its President Saby Fernandes, and supported by Gabriel Fernandes, Jerome Fernandes, Alfie Fernandes, Hippo Vaz, Lester Fernandes and a dedicated team of youth volunteers.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Colva Union UK Public Relations Officer Snovia Fernandes, who thanked the priests, chief guest, committee, sponsors and all present.
The feast concluded on a note of joy, unity and thanksgiving, with everyone seeking the blessings of the Miraculous Infant Jesus.
