A doctor from Bhatlem-Panaji was conferred the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in Transfusion Science at the New Fellows ceremony held at the Royal College of Pathologists in London on September 10.
Dr Deep Madkaiker is the first international (non-UK) candidate to be awarded the honour, and this landmark milestone is also the first for a transfusion medicine specialist in India.
He is currently serving as Assistant Professor and Co-coordinator of the Centre of Excellence in Immunohematology at the Department of Immunohematology & Blood Transfusion, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Dr Madkaiker is the husband of Dr Jennifer Mendes and son of Data Chandracanta Morcoicar and Chaya Morcoicar.
Dr Madkaiker completed his primary education at People's High School, Panaji, followed by Mushtifund Higher Secondary School. He is also an alumnus of Goa Medical College, Bambolim, having completed his MBBS in 2016.
Dr Madkaiker has consistently been at the forefront in his field of transfusion medicine, being the first post-graduate in Transfusion Medicine from Goa. He was previously awarded the President’s NBEMS Gold Medal for his outstanding performance in the DNB final exam in 2022.
Following his MD training at the prestigious Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, Dr Madkaiker has published eight scientific papers in reputable journals, secured two research grants, and has a patent pending in his name.
Dr Madkaiker has also been previously recognised for his academic excellence by the Directorate of Higher Education, Goa, in 2019, where he was awarded the Goa Scholars award under the Goa Scholar Scheme 2017-2018 conceptualised by late chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
