Angela Joyce de Souza, Labour Party councillor from the Wembley Hill Ward in the Brent Council, has been re-elected as a Service User Governor of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, representing Brent, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Ealing.
When contacted, Joyce told The Goan that as a Service User Governor, her main responsibility is to represent the voice of patients, carers and the public with lived experience of NHS services.
“I bring those perspectives directly into how CNWL plans and delivers care. The Council of Governors holds the Trust’s Non-Executive Directors to account, helps set the Trust’s strategic direction, and ensures we stay focused on quality, safety and patient experience,” said Joyce.
“This role is personal to me. As someone with lived experience of NHS services, I know how much it matters when patients and carers feel heard, respected and involved in decisions about their care.”
Joyce’s key responsibilities include accountability, where she will working with the Board to scrutinise performance and make sure the Trust delivers for residents across Brent, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Ealing. She will also focus on representation, bringing local concerns, ideas, and real experiences from residents, community groups and service users directly into Trust discussions, as well as strategy, by contributing to decisions on priorities, new services, and improvements to mental health, community health and primary care.
“I’ve also served on the Trust’s Appointment Committee, which is responsible for recruiting and appraising the Chair and Non-Executive Directors. It’s a vital role — getting the right leadership in place is what makes high-quality, person-centred care possible,” said Joyce.
“I’m proud to continue this work at a time when our NHS faces big challenges. I’ll keep pushing for services that are accessible, respectful and built around the needs of all residents in Brent, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Ealing, and everyone with lived experience of care.”
