Rent-a-cab taxi operators submit memo to transport department

PANAJI

Rent-a-Cab taxi operators have submitted a memorundum to the transport department mentioning that it is not feasible for them to pay hiked all India permit fees. These operators have demanded a state specific fees as their vehicles are not plying outside Goa.The central government has increased the all India permit free. As per rent-a-cab operators this fee is approximately Rs25,000 per year. Paying so high fee is not feasible for our business, said Nitesh Chodankar, vice-president of rent-a-Cab association."We hardly make a business of Rs60,000 per year on one vehicle and if  we have to pay tax of around 25,000 than what profit will we make?" asked Nitesh. We have to pay insurance and do maintainance of the vehicle also, said Chodankar. Chodankar said normally the vehicles are used in the state only and paying all India tax is not practical. There should be an option for the rent-a-cab operators, he added.
