Getting a job in Mormugao Municipal Council could be acakewalk.
Only you need to be related to a councilor or a municipalitystaff. Educational qualification can go for a toss.
MMC has appointed eight temporary staff, as clerks on May28, 2012 flouting all recruitment norms. This has angered councilor TaraKerkar, who has threatened to approach the Vigilance.
Kerkar took the council by surprise on September 27 meeting,when she displayed RTI documents, showing how rules were bent to accommodatethe kith and kin of councilors and MMC staff.
The RTI documents revealed that the council had soughtapplications for post of LDC with minimum education qualification of HSSC andDiploma in computers. The council went ahead and appointed two candidates --Pravin Dabholkar and Gutam Naik who were just SSC pass.
“Most of these contract staff are either relatives ofcouncilors or council staff,” said Kerkar.
Considering the notorious record of the council it appearsthat the eight staff appointed on the contract basis are likely to beregularized whenever there is vacancy for clerical posts.
Earlier, the council had regularized 43 labourers who wererecruited on temporary basis.
“If appointed on jobs of temporary nature than they areeligible to be regularized as and when such posts fall vacant in the council,”said Union leader Ajit Rane.
These appointments were done by my predecessor and theentire process seems to be illegal, Chief Officer Agnel Fernandes acknowledged.
“This is the duplicity of BJP government. On one hand thegovernment has been cancelling recruitment done during Congress regime whilethe same government is turning a blind eye to illegal recruitment in MMC whichis controlled by BJP,” said councilor Pascoal D’Souza.
